How to use custom arabic fonts in your web design projects
If you have build arabic sites in the past, then you would be well aware that typography is not exactly your best friend. Arabic sites always look the same, the same basic Tahoma font or whichever other standard font you decide to use.
With english sites, typography can be the main element of your design, arabic some how manages to kill the design. You will notice this especially when you are designing a english / arabic website. You can compare both designs directly.
Normally, with english characters you have a vast number of options for using unique font replacement tools as your web type base. These include but are not limited to:
But what about arabic? I remember reading a post from cufon that due to the way arabic letters join together based on the word, it would take a lot more effort to create web based font replacement.
However, determined not to use standard fonts on this project, finally i have come across a solution:
They actually offer 84 different arabic fonts which you can use in your web projects!
However if you are looking for a free version, they only offer 11 fonts and as a comprimise you will get a badge displayed on the bottom right corner of your site, with a link to the fonts.com font you used.
However on the upside, if you are willing to pay for this privledge, they are very cost effective, starting at only 10 usd per month, and you get access to their whole library of webfonts, which are thousands!
